And just to be even more clear about it, beside the fact that award trips don't earn RDMs or EQMs, they don't add to your lifetime total either. Nor do free flights received for VDBs etc.
Considering that I have redeemed about five standard awards for my family members, they would have missed 100,000 miles in total had the standard awards earned miles. Now I know that they did not miss any mile.
