I'm one of those "self centered butts" which you refer to. However, I never felt my Elite FF status make me more important than you. I've always felt families travelling w/small children or infants should be allowed to pre-board along with the Elites; I just don't think the Elite FF perk of pre-boarding should be taken away. I fly a lot and go out of my way to fly on the carrier which I wish to remain loyal to. Allowing me to board along with the folks who have a legitimate reason to get ahead of the crowd is a nice way of saying "thanks for your patronage".

As a counterpoint; I hate those families which grab their 2 teen-agers (no tykes or infants) and walk on when the boarding invitation is extended to families w/small children.
