I value pre-boarding because, in my experience, most boarding delays are caused by infrequent travelers who don't know where their seats are, don't know how an overhead bin works or which direction their bag will fit into it, are carrying all sorts of little items from the souvenir shop, don't realize they're blocking everyone as they undress and sort things out, etc., etc. It is one of the few privileges of spending over a hundred hours a year in flight (yes, the equivalent of three working weeks, and I'm far from the most frequent of flyers) to say nothing of time in airports, time going to airports, ...

It's not who they are, it's how they act. Many tourists are fine people and experienced travelers. (I'm a tourist myself from time to time.) But that category seems to include most of the problem cases as well.

And it's not a question of feeling that I'm "above them." I was not born in a stately manor house. I am not a more important person than anyone else. But I do spend a lot more time in airplanes than most people. Something that is a minor annoyance if it happens once a year becomes a big one if it happens several times a month. Airplanes are my home away from home. I just want to get to my seat, sit down out of everyone else's way, and let the rest of the passengers take their time.

Airline personnel are good at pre-boarding people who need extra time. I never object to seeing parents with toddlers, folks in wheelchairs, or whatever board ahead of me. I don't think anyone does. If you can benefit from a little extra time you need only ask.
