I don't think there are any cons worth worrying about. The only "con" I can think of is that if there is a schedule change or irregular operations UA could re-route you on separate flights if they are not aware you're traveling together. But this is such a remote possibility it's not even worth considering. And, even if it did happen if you were aware of it early enough you could call and have it corrected.
