I tend to agree. The entire system is ridiculous, which is why we are all here arbitraging and having fun. That's why we are here. There is the occasional deal that looks too good to be true, but isn't.
$1242 would have been a screaming deal, though no more screaming than a recent USAirways promotion where one merchant offered 40 miles per dollar spent and USAirways added a whopping 250% bonus onto that. That results in a first class ticket on Star Alliance (LH) to Europe for less than $1,000.
