I'm sure you're happy with the award, but could you have flown from MIA-IAD-JFK-ZRH instead to experience LX's new First Class? Or were you looking for the quickest way to get there? The old LX F is great, the new LX F is even better.
You'll love the FCL in MUC. Yes, there are showers.
if it was me, yes in a heartbeat

but for goalie-parents, the fewer stops the better as they can get more sleep

I have only flown F on a LH 747 on the upper deck. Seats were lie flat but you do sit near your neighbor. They are not suites like on UA. Quite comfortable but suites are better. Not totally sure if it's the same setup on the Airbus they'll be flying on.
F class service (soft product) is outstanding. Separate menus for wine and food, caviar service along with other hors d'oeurves. They also give each passenger a rose with a plastic base filled with water that you insert into a hole at your seat and it stays there the whole flight.
At MIA Lufthansa uses a partner lounge called "Club America" which is outside security. According to the website it's an "interim lounge". Doesn't sound too exciting.
They'll be able to use the First Class Lounge at MUC and yes there are showers.
Baggage will be checked all the way through both ways.
thanks and re: lounges at mia, i forgot that goalie-dad has a lifetime aadmiral's club membership from back in his working days so that may work if in the same terminal and airside (and i never could figure out why some lounges are landside

)
