A couple of tips:
- The amount of time you have spent at your home address also matters. If you moved within the last year you will probably be rejected.
- Single people renting their home have the hardest time getting credit. It's easier for people living with their parents since the lender assumes their disposable income is higher.
- Get a home phone number if you don't already have one; it allegedly increases your creditworthiness.
- Try applying for a JAL Card (here). There are first-year-free types, and according to some rumors I read online, JAL Card may not care about your lack of credit history as much as other card issuers do (though you have to make sure they are the issuer; the basic cards are all JAL-issued, as is the Suica card, but the "partner" cards generally are not).
I just looked at that website and there seems so many options even for the normal card. Any advice as to any in particular (exact name *Japanese okay*)? There are 普通カード and CLUB-Aカード etc.
And on the ANA side (my preference) would you recommend applying for a normal card or wide?
If approved do they ask for evidence of pay, time at work and time in one place?
