A: No, they get a 2 x 50 lb luggage allowance. I have found some agents
allow 'more' than 50 lb, since I (the Gold/Plat) am flying, but the rule is 50
lb. You must be flying with them (but need not be on the same PNR).

"Flying with friends" is quite different (and more broadly defined) than companions on the same actual PNR or original PNR (after splitting). When you said "you must be flying with them", you DIDN'T mean that they are merely on the same flight, but rather that they have to have been on the original booking with you. Right?
I think you know that answer here -- if the 'friends/companions' aren't/or weren't on your same original PNR -- they are on their own -- in terms of whatever baggage allowance applies to them, according to their individual status. Obviously, this is definitely the case of any friends that happen to be flying with you. After all, if one could extend their elite privilege baggage allowance on any friends that happen to be flying with them -- the airlines would be collecting very little revenue there!

That said -- you are entitled to check the number of bags, fee-free, up to what you are allowed -- no problem!^
