Any personal experience with good-value non-chain hotels in Basel?

I need to spend a Sunday night in Basel, a city I know a tiny bit but have never stayed in. I'd like to keep it around 100 CHF including breakfast and internet, be pretty central (near old town rather than Messe), clean, not in the red light district, have some charm or interest and, well, not be depressing. Prefer non-smoking. Don't need parking, luxurious room service or extensive business facilities. After a ridiculous amount of time surfing hotel sites I've come up with a few possibilities. Does anyone have experience with any of the properties listed below? Other suggestions? Just how seedy is the station (Basel SBB) area?

Thanks in advance.

- Das Breite Hotel (too far from center but ?)
- au Violon
- Rochat
- Victoria
- Teufelhof (is it worth the premium?)
- Easy Hotel (really bare bones, usually in funky neighborhoods, but adequate--just)
