I think "ssk0" (welcome to the forum!) made a very good point:
"I don't think it makes sense if you are continuing this year as an elite."
That was my thought, too, so perhaps I'll give AAdvantage Customer Service a ring and talk with them about it. They have yet to bend any rules for me and I have not yet presented them with any special cases to deal with. I'll let you all know if my efforts prove successful.
