It's pretty straightforward to book if there is availability. However, Air China's C product is pretty poor especially if not flying on the A330. Even on the A330, AVOD is a joke, seat is a wedgie style one, and food is maybe even worse than UA.

If you're willing to connect, I'd try real hard to fly on UA or connect on ANA through NRT, Asiana through ICN, or Air Canada through YVR - all of which will offer a much superior in the air experience.
