FWIW, I learned the hard way to never, ever say you are visiting a significant other while traveling internationally, even just for the weekend. While I was never denied entry to the UK for saying that, it did always lead to a 5-10 minute immigration conversation. Saying 'I'm here to drink beer' typically creates a conversation that takes as long as it takes to utter the words 'I'm here to drink beer.' And of course, both reasons were always equally true. @:-)
So true. Although it may seem counter-intuitive, a yes answer to "do you know anyone here" or similar question is likely to lead to many more questions.
