This just isn't true in my experience. The last time I checked (just before Christmas) YQR-LHR I was able to find all sorts of room in J for the second week of February. You just cannot always get what you want when you want, which is a different matter altogether.

SH is right about looking to go F on a Star partner--better seat, etc.
