Girl Friend not allowed to fly from Canada to US
Tuesday, January 12th, 7:30am.
Today my girlfriend of 6 months was to visit me from Canada for the first time. United airlines sold her the ticket, and told her what was required to travel. She met the spoken quota, as well as the quota they have listed upon their web page for outer country traveling. When she arrived at the airport the tagged her bags, and proceeded to let her through the check in line. At the very last check in they asked her what tied her to Canada. She replied family and home. Then she was refused service as "She had no real ties to Canada, and there was no proof she wasn't going to the U.S. to be a illegal citizen." First off, why was she not informed previous to this that she would need to have proof of enrollment in a school, or proof of a job in Canada to travel to the U.S.? Secondly, she had proof of residency, I understand that isn't a lot. And last but not least, she said family and United Airlines doesn't recognize that? It's interesting family isn't recognized by United Airlines. If she didn't meet the requirements we should have been notified, refused the ticket, or at least forewarned she would need one of these things. On top of all of this, my girlfriend was mistreated verbally, and harassed. I will be contacting Glenn F. Tilton soon to have a conversation with this gentlemen. I believe I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau.
And airlines wonder why they are going under, with treatment like this and lack of respect for it patrons I'm appalled to think they have requested funds in the United States to keep them from going bankrupt. I will also be contacting my stats senators and representatives to request that if a bill come fourth to assist the airlines again we refuse this. yes I am slightly angry, my girlfriend is in tears, and now my best laid plans are in waste. My 6 year old nephew, and 2 year old niece are sad that the plans we had to make a snowman when she arrives will be one person short. So excuse me if I sound so, as I am sure you will all understand my heart has been broken as well, as this was to be the first time we met.
