When I saw this, I got concerned for a moment. Earlier this week, I cashed in 160,000 AAdvantage Miles for 4 tickets from Chicago-London-Budapest-London-Chicago - for a two week vacation, with a week in Budapest and then a week in London for me, my wife and 3 kids (I am buying my own ticket). We're flying AA to London, then BA on to Budapest and back to London the next week, and then AA back to Chicago.
I wondered why I was "charged" 40K per ticket "to Europe" and not the promotional 30K. So I called AA and asked. They checked and told me that because I am flying on both AA and BA, I didn't qualify for the promotional rate, which is good only on AA!
Well, it was a good try!
Thanks.
