I was a volunteer at Newark Liberty Int airport for a charity called 'Travelers Aid International'; I have indeed on a few occasions met young travelers flying into EWR on their own, met them as soon as they have disembarked and escorted them to take their next connecting flight at another terminal.

Travelers Aid volunteers will also assist passengers arriving on international flights where possible.
