Smile excellent suggestion

Sometimes cultural nuances do get lost with a language problem - I used to have a next door neighbor from Vietnam and I learned that my interpretation of a "friendly greeting" and his were very different, usually by about 30 decibels.
This is a prudent, wise and mature suggestion.
There is no reason to escalate this situation or take it to a big confrontation level.
This may be a security issue.
The guard may have seemed intimidating.
There may be a practical reason. If you ask and discuss you will find out.
Or perhaps the guard needs more training.
Discuss, ask questions, and keep everything friendly and adult. No reason to get upset.
Happy travels.
