I would update the card because I experienced the worst case scenario when it comes to this.
It was 1999, I used a MC for a food delivery order in Hoboken, NJ. Well, my card was used for fraud, I then had to cancel the card and get a new one. Since the fraudulent charges were refunded, I thought everything was cool.
Well what I FORGOT about was that I used that particular MC for a Red Roof Inn reservation in Groton, CT. (I was young and it was cheap). Well, it was a friend's wedding and my then GF and I didn't check in before we went to the wedding so we went there AFTER the party was over, like 1am.
Well, when they tried to run my MC for the the guaranteed/late arrival charge at 8pm, it came back declined. So, they assumed I wasn't coming so when a walk-in came in they GAVE MY ROOM AWAY and they were SOLD OUT.
I was very pissed. However, you can imagine what kind of staff person works the graveyard at a RRI in Groton, CT, she was not very smart nor very apologetic.
We were forced to stay in some flea bitten MOTHBALL motel (It was the summer, we were near Mystic and Foxwoods didn't have a huge hotel at the time), so the entire area was sold out!
So, whenever you can UPDATE THAT CC!
