FORT WORTH, Texas – A foreign film festival on a domestic airline? American Airlines says, "why not?" American is bringing a number of quality foreign films to select domestic and international flights during October.
"Our customers have enjoyed and given us very positive feedback on our previous themed film festivals," said Veronica Lopes, American’s managing director of inflight products. "This time we’ve chosen recent award-winning foreign films that may not be as well known as some of the domestic films currently in circulation. We think our customers will enjoy seeing something different."
Among the international films being screened on board American in October:
"Le Violon Rouge" – "The Red Violin," the winner of eight Canadian Genie Awards, starring Samuel L. Jackson. "The Red Violin" is a mystical tale of love, life and destiny.
"Life Is Beautiful" is Italian, a film by Roberto Beninni, which won three Academy Awards, including Best Foreign Film. It tells a poignant story of life unfolding during the chaos of war.
"The Dinner Game" comes from France, another award-winner hailed by critics as one of the funniest French comedies in years.
"Beyond Silence" was made in Germany, and brings to the screen a moving story about the relationship between a hearing child and her deaf parents.
"Lovers of the Arctic Circle" comes from Spain, and literally transports its participants to the end of the earth in a story of romantic adventure.
"The Buena Vista Social Club" is both eclectic and emotionally charged, an insightful look at the unique music and music-makers of Cuba.
