Upgrade to Premium, on the AA transcon, is theoretically impossible. That is, the rules say that even if you have a full fare business ticket you can't do sticker upgrade into Premium. However, a *if* you have the *old* miles (pre 1989?) then you can upgrade from coach into Premium for 10,000 miles, round trip.
