I think we all know that Euro-elites don't get Amex (unless they move their cards back to the UK six months later), but the real issue is BA dishing out Gold/Silver cards in this fashion, where pretty much any BMI Gold or Silver, regardless of where they were located, will be able to join in on the fun.

It also should be noted that BMI Silver only gets you lounge access on BMI. The comped level of BA Silver, which gets you lounge access across the entire OW network, is more of an equivalent to Star Alliance Gold, which comes with BMI Gold.
