The OP will have to pay $150 in new money, then can use the $1,150 in his name for a new ticket. If the new ticket is less than the old ticket, then he will receive an ETC for the residual value. The ETC can be used for anyone, and holds residual value, so you can buy several tickets on that.
Yes this is the most relevant reply and if you change ticket online it will send you the balance in ETC by snail mail that may take several days. However you can call and book subsequent tickets by telling them to look ETC from the old confirmations no. Or you can even ask for ETC pin (some time they give the ETC on phone and some time they don't). Other option is to make all new booking on phone. They will be able to do it. Only first ticket will require you to pay $150 change fees (by credit card this is not dedcuted from original ticket).
