Well, you would then have $500 to spend at Costco, so you would buy 6 packs of Hyatt GC's for $480 ($600 in Hyatt certs) then you could put $20 of gas in your car, have a feast at the Costco food court (mmmm, $1.50 1/4 lb all beef hot dog and drink ....), or spend it anywhere else in Costco.
The advantages of the approach I describe are a bit more of a discount (6.9% for the one I purchased after rebates), the ability to use a non-AMEX card for the purchase, if that matters (in my case it does), and the ability to purchase these in stores without a Costco membership, if that matters (in my case it does not). The one downside is the unknown availability of these certificates in the future, but there are many good uses for Costco Cash Cards in my opinion.
