Not sure if it would fit with your travels or interests but ~80 kms from Halls Gap is the Royal Mail Hotel at Dunkeld. It's a "gastropub" which has been tarted up big time. I haven't been there but it is supposed to be excellent dining (and has accommodation), but appears to also have prices to match!
