EDGE is OK for basic surfing (like FT type), but don't expect anything more. Frankly, if you don't at least have EDGE service in your location of travel, I wouldn't bother with using the mobile broadband there. You'll save a lot of time just going to an internet "cafe"
Yes, I plan to use it in DEL, MAA & CCU on my next trip; perhaps also in BOM on future trips. But I also plan to visit (later this month) places like Raipur in Madhya Pradesh and do some train travel in Central India. So it is important to have connectivity (on my own laptop and not in some Internet cafe) throughout.
