Unhappy Alamo diesel damage charge

I wonder if anyone else had similar experience.

I rent a car from Alamo in JAC last July and purchased the full CDW at $22.95/day in the hope to be free of all hassles.

The car broken down on the second day, and it turns out that I have filled diesel. Purco, a collection agency representing Alamo, contacted me about a month later. They claimed that my CDW was void therefore I am responsible for all charges. When asked how come this damage is not covered by CDW, Purco's argumentative lady asserted that I was being reckless therefore the CDW is void.

I admit that the damage is my fault, however I cannot agree with the recklessness charge. The lady insisted that reckless equals carelessness. To my knowledge, being reckless is like knowing the consequence but still do it intentionally, like speeding or driving under influence. In my case, it didn't know it was diesel and I didn't fill diesel intentionally. In fact, I was always told that a diesel nozzle will not fit into a gas car, so it never occurs to me that this could happen. Also I have assumed that all gas stations place diesel and gas pumps quite apart, which is the way in the gas stations I usually go.

Anyway, I am just wondering if someone else had similar situation and how it was handled. I am not convinced by Alamo's argument that I was being reckless and feel that they are trying to rip me off. Can anyone please provide some advices?
