Yes in lap. I was surprised when traveling first time with infant domestically (well actually to Mexico) with US airline that they had no seatbelt for the infant? How odd is that, as if you could hold your child if something happens. All European airlines (and Asian as far as I experienced) have seatbelt for infant when sitting on your lap, LH for sure. So then after that it is basinet, or if you're lucky (I have been on 8/10 of our long haul C/F flights) you have a spare seat.
