Thanks for all the input.
I'll just suck it up and pay for direct and avoid all the hassle.

The funny thing is:
YYC-YVR-YLW is 50 bucks,
but
YVR-YYC-YLW is 125.

So you can get a cheap flight from Calgary to Vancouver, but not Vancouver to Calgary.
