opportunity knocks for AC?

a thought that came up tonight with an australian friend who lives in the UK and works all over the world. he was telling me that he refuses to fly through the US whenever it's remotely possible - the retina scans and etc were already too much for him. now that we can't carry on, and are subject to body searches, etc., he's adamant that he won't fly that way.

could canada be positioning itself as a 'hassle-free' transit hub? i can imagine there must be a growing market for flights that route through places like vancouver, toronto or montreal rather than LA/chicago/new york. canadians get an easier go of it at immigration, but many of the new security rules make an already unpleasant trip even worse.

thoughts?
