Thanks! The second bag is going to be big enough to not get past security at EWR. I have a 9 hour layover in DTW and so when I reach DTW, I will go land side, receive a bag from my family and check it in to AMS at the check-in desk before the security. Is this feasible? Basically, I am checking a bag on the land side at the connecting airport.
This may not be as safe a bet as a bag that already cleared security being gate-checked. I wouldn't let on that someone else packed and gave you the bag!
