I'm confused by this too. Senior colleagues have always told me it's the barcode which is what matters, priority tags and address labels have nothing to do with it.

This is especially so at LGW where we don't use priority tags, nor do we even stock any. And an F or CW address label is irrelevant as half the F/CW passengers don't bother putting them on their bags. And some that do have them on travel in WT, WT+ or ET.

Most check-in staff don't remove old address labels or priority tags. I'm not sure if they're even aware they should do this, especially as a good percentage of them give our F or CW address tags to all passengers, no matter the cabin they're travelling in.

It is true that LHR works slightly differently to LGW so maybe this is where the difference lies.
