To further my advice to the OP about hunting on the aisle, look for something low mileage. An SUV with 1,000 miles on it will fare much better than one with 20,000 as the tires will be newer. Also you could do as I've done and make a note of which models have ABS, Traction Control, and/or Stability Control. I think almost everything in the Full-Size SUV category would have those.
