If the search for flights HKG-CDG comes up with BA flights, then move forward or backward in dates, until you identify a date when there are no BA flights available.
Then start again, and do a search for this specific date when there are no BA flights available, eg HKG-CDG, in J, for 8 January. It will return, as expected, "no flights available" and give you the option to search for partner flights. This will then access the CX flights, eg 8 Jan, you can book CX261 at 2345, and there are 4 award seats in J left. Then to move to your preferred date, just search earlier or later dates. By searching later it will give you 11 Jan (5 seats available) etc.
