Reminds me of a flight out of PHL to LAX a couple of years ago. No food at all in first class due to "mechanical problems in the kitchen". Of course later on I quietly asked the very nice flight attendant what the real reason was. And it was because of a toilet back up in the catering department. Not sure what exactly that meant and certainly didn't want to ask.
By the way, long before we were scheduled to depart, the captain of that flight actually left the plane and bought sandwiches in the airport for all of us in first class (8 seats). Very classy move.
