As many of you, I am somewhat curious what the elusive GS Algorithm is, i.e. the set of calculations that decide if one is in or not. Some speculations include that GS status is (1) not based on EQMs at all; (2) based on revenue (both contributed AND expected); (3) based on full fare EQMs. I actually think that there isn't just ONE way but rather that there are few different pathways to GS Status and I will speculate below what (I think) they are:

(1) 35K or more spent in a calender year on ALL flights (personally). Could be more in elite heavy hubs and less on other airports.

(2) XYK or more revenue brought to UAL by being in a position to do just that, i.e. travel agent/planner etc for a company.

(3) 500K or more EQMS (any EQMS). Could be lower but perhaps not any lower than 350K (trust me I know ).

(4) 75K FULL FARE EQMS. If the re-qualification is 50K FULL FARE EQMS, the initial qualification cannot be that much higher.

(5) Special invitation offered by UAL to anyone for whom (1), (2), (3) or (4) does not apply.
