If spend on the Cent card were truly the "only interesting point for Amex" then I suspect they would simply cancel the Cent Cards held by the numerous folks on this forum, who have acknowledged that they put almost no spend whatsoever, on their Cent Cards, in favor of other cards they find more rewarding (e.g. Amex SPG card, etc.), but merely carry the card for the travel benefits.

Amex definitely understands that Centurion cardholders might also have other Amex cards and prefer to use them. Although I believe things like the special unannounced gifts they send out are based on Centurion spend only, they do go out of their way to make the other cards a better experience for Centurion cardholders.
For example, I have an SPG as well as HHonors Surpass Amex cards in addition to Centurion. If I call the regular customer service number on the back of the SPG or HHonors card and put in that account number, I don't speak to the normal SPG or HHonors customer service, but instead get immediately transferred to Centurion customer service who then provides service for the non-Centurion card. Amex went to a lot of trouble to make this happen, and they wouldn't have done so if they wanted to discourage Centurion cardholders from also having and using other Amex products.
