True, but if a hotel trains its security guards to physically attack guests in the manner you describe - even if you had been the "right" person - then I have a fundamental problem with the organization itself. It seems like they should have better security protocol in general.

I doubt it was a case of a single guard going rogue and randomly jumping people in the lobby.

FWIW, I didn't really think about it until now, but I felt like Marriott had much more standardized security protocols than Hilton during my 5-6 nights with each brand in Egypt. Granted, I stayed at a huge Marriott (central Cairo) and a smallish Hilton (the aforementioned lovely Luxor one), but even during our stay we joked how we sometimes had to use the metal detector and sometimes didn't.
