Is the new Y seat that doesn't recline really that bad?

Is the new fixed-back shell Y seat really that bad? I heard a lot of my friends complaining about it and wanting to switch to other airlines programs just because of the new Y seat.

Couple more questions:

Since the new Y seat doesn't recline, do you still need to adjust your seat to upright position during take off and landing?

If the reclining is done by sliding the seat cushion forward, does it decrease the leg room?

Do you sleep better or worst with the new Y seat?

Do you think the new Y seat is the worst design ever in airlines industries?
