I find this nickel-and-diming attitude very annoying, but the fact that they blame it on 9/11 is REVOLTING!! (This is the first time I "yell" on this board.) DC is definitely not the only merchant to adopt this strategy, but, for me, to take a tragedy of such proportions as an excuse for squeezing a bit more money out of consumers is petty, disgusting, and insulting to anyone's intelligence, not to mention in terribly bad taste.
There was a recession going well before 9/11, and, at some point, there will be a recovery. Are all those jackals who raised prices in the name of 9/11 going to lower them? One guess...
Ok, sorry to go off like this... I'm going back to my more mellow e-persona right now...
