At the moment there are no Intercons in Scotland. The George in Edinburgh used to be one but it isn't anymore. Currently there are plans for a new Intercon at Haymarket in Edinburgh but that is still in the application process I think.
Aberdeen has two HIX - one out at the exhibition centre and one in the city centre which is older but off Union Street, the main street. It also has 2 Holiday Inns, an older one next to the exhibition centre HIX and one of the 'new' branding hotels in a suburb 15-20 minutes outside of the city called Westhill.
Perth has a new HIX much like any other one which is on the ring roads outside of the city centre as well.
Ediburgh again has 3 HIX and 2 Holiday Inns. HIX Royal Mile and Picardy Place are both in very good city centre locations, walkable with the Royal Mile one being newer. The other HIX is in Leith, a harbour area with nice trendy restaurants and attractions like the Royal Yacht Brittannia. Not far by bus to the city centre.
Both Holiday Inns are a bit older and situated 10-15 minutes by bus from the city centre. The HI Corstorphine is my preferred one of the two. Nicer rooms, better service, good Plat recognition.
I've stayed at the Glasgow, Inverness and Dumfermline properties as well if you want info on those.
For IC level service and quality - prob have to go with 'gasp' a diff chain....pm me if you want recommendations.
