Dear freeupgrade,

I am truly sorry to hear about your stepfather in ICU. Please accept our sympathies and know people are thinking of you and praying for your stepfather and your entire family.

My father passed away in June and AA was very understanding and while the airfares weren't inexpensive, $1200 for 2, we were able to squeeze space on full flights from SFO-MCO with 1 day notice. I also changed my itinerary several times since this is allowed with this type of fare if there are seats available. They gave us some better seats in coach and since the crew knew of our situation (I believe it's on the record), they were extra kind and it meant a lot to us.

You will need to have information for the agents, but they will tell you what they need in order to process the tickets. We needed to give the funeral home name and phone number.

We hope this is helpful and again, we're very sorry about your stepfather.
