Numerous large cities have issues with crime and it is usually concentrated in certain areas and within certain groups. I certainly could not be the head of the local tourism board but I think discouraging visitors to not visit the city is closed minded. I live in northern Baltimore County now but I lived in the city in Federal Hill for years and enjoyed living there. The city offers cultural attractions, restaurants, shopping, etc. that you definitely cannot find in York, PA.
You are right it does, but the crime rate is out of control. Other cities are reducing crime, but it runs rampant in Baltimore. Yes, Federal Hill is a nice area too, and I do appreciate the cultural opportunities, but after treating scores and scores of tourists and visitors that were shot, stabbed or raped, sorry, not into it.
