I think another thing to remember is the recognition that oneworld Emerald gives over Sapphire. Perhaps not so much on BA, but I noted the benefits of Silver/Sapphire on Qantas - served first, individual CSM greeting etc. It does make one feel a bit more special.
On a recent BA CW flight, I, as silver, had my food order taken first; nice but a bit odd as
Mrs Fruitcake who didn't have silver / sapphire then, didn't get asked until later. Perhaps these touches depend on individual CC rather than airline?
