I must admit I was a bit saddened to see the opening post and that the destination for a free pair of flights was going to be based solely on the notional bang per buck. I guess we all enjoy our travel for different reasons - but I for one can simply make no sense of making a journey simply for that reason - and taking someone I presume one cares about seems confusing.
I have more miles in some schemes than I can ever use and to be frank I'd leave them there rather than make a trip I didn't have a burning desire to do.
In any event - hope you enjoy the trip wherever it might be to!

It's just that I don't want to waste the Amex voucher on a flight that I'd normally happily pay cash for. I'm simply trying to extract as much value as possible, hence asking for ideas a from you guys - people who are more familiar with redemptions than I am. If the highest £/mile was a J to Bagdhad i'm not saying i'd go there! My backpacking-buddy who's coming with me shares a similar ethos; it's all about making the most of the opportunity.
Surely you can relate to that!?!
Apologies if I inadvertantly insinuated that it's exclusively about cash though; it's obviously not *just* about that
