There is no trip that must be taken that badly that only hospitalization stands in your way, and that hospitalization remark just nails it home that you clearly aren't fit for flight right now.

SwingT didn't say that he/she
needed to be hospitalised, just that the trip is so important that hospitalisation would be the only thing keeping it from happening. Have you never had anything urgent to do for work before?
Make judgements for your own life, but as long as the OP is concerned, as long as he/she takes reasonable precautions to protect him/herself and those around (which, mind you, is a dam sight better than many people who fly), then I don't see what the problem is.
