A problem with seat reclining is that the seats were designed assuming more seat pitch and extra room than the airlines are actually giving.
Boeing has long lived in its own little bubble where 747s still have lounges, airlines give ample seat pitch in coach, and if they design a fuselage for 8 wide coach seats or 9 narrow ones the airlines will opt for the wider ones. When in the real world the airlines almost always adopt the downsized seat or seat pitch (which is totally at odds with people getting bigger & wider). So next time it seems like the other passenger's fault, spare a thought for those who create the difficult conditions that facilitate passengers fighting with each other.
