If they don't work any better than what we've got, and if they don't speed up the process while working as well as what we've got, then of course there is no point in spending the money on them. But for purposes of this discussion you have to suspend your disbelief and say, "Yes, but what if they did work perfectly and at no additional cost in terms of money or inconvenience?"

The reason you have to do that is that there are people out there who, when asked in this way, still maintain that the gain in safety would not be worth the cost in terms of their (or others') shame from having a stranger viewing an image of the body that lies under their clothing.

I am not among them. Convince me that it genuinely makes us safer, and I will be for the technology.
