Well this thread is quite old and there
used to be credit cards as good as or in some ways better than Schwab. For instance the Wells Fargo Signature card was the best card especially if you do a lot of other banking with Wells. But last year they began adding a 3% foreign charge so it's no longer recommended for outside the US.
I agree that now, Schwab seems to be the best out there.
My current solution however is to get local credit cards in whatever country you travel to often.
