A couple of years ago Costco made a big splash when they started co-branding women's cosmetics with the high-priced Borghese company. They claim that the quality compares with the Borghese lines sold at full-price department stores, but even the article that appeared in the Costco Connection dances around the comparison ("made in the same factories", etc).

Another company that went downmarket was Burt's Bees - they used to be only sold in places like Whole Foods, but are now widely found in places like CVS and Walgreens.
