The first time I returned from Nigeria (not the Middle East but probably a place of interest these days) I was asked why I visited and I truthfully replied "Your oil comes from a lot of places that aren't so nice." My passport then got stamped, and I exited. Since that time, no questions. Of course, my name isn't Mohammad and I'm a US citizen. YMMV.
